Why the Ladd Family Got Quiet

The week between Christmas and New Years feels like a wonderful secret. You don’t have to clean up Christmas decorations yet. You don’t have to go to work. There’s not a lot of have-to’s. The whole world seems a little off schedule.

I wanted to steal a few Saturday moments to say hello and share with you why there’s been no Ladd Family stories or Friday Fives for a while. Spoiler alert: there is finally no “you should write a book about this” reason! No one got hit by a car, needs surgery, had a baby, is dealing with major corruption, or is up to their ears in legal drama this time.  Yippee!!

The Ladd Family got quiet online because we’ve been writing new rhythms. And because we’ve been so blessed that it’s taken a minute (or months) of a little more quiet to really hear and see what’s in front of us.

We’ve partnered with a local church to serve with, learn from and who will help us start Love Jesus Church. A huge prayer answered and enormous value added to our family.

We’ve hosted our pastor and an epic Thanksgiving meal for 60.

We’ve started Help Club for Moms and friendships we’ve always prayed for.

We’ve celebrated and prayed over new life, loss and everything in between with our friends here.

We’ve grown a giant human and celebrated his last day of being 11-years old today!

We’ve put our baby in a cage and cherished every milestone and moment with him.

We’ve gone to the beach, served at a soup kitchen, had playdates, played ping-pong, played with pups and gone on walks.

Lifa got new pants, a deeper voice and a new hairstyle.

Chris got a running coach and has been training like a madman.

I got a Nespresso machine, and caffeine continuously flows through my veins.

We attempted our first advent calendar... and made it halfway through before Christmas.

We got a lime tree as a Christmas tree.

We had an amazing Christmas together and found a productive outlet for Benjamin to use his Captain Destructo powers.

We got grown-up plates, and I act like a delighted child every time I serve a meal on them.

We’ve had as many people as we can in our home.

We’ve had summery sunset meals outside.

We’ve been living right in the moment of all these blessings. Chris and I both took a season off of online communication. We didn’t plan it, but I think it was because we wanted to stay present with what was happening right in front of us. I’m so glad we did.

We look around us here and see so many blessings. Many of those blessings are answers to your prayers and seeds planted in our lives by you. Even when you’re not here or we’re not posting, you’re a part of this story and a part of our family. Thank you. And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
