Fancy Love

The boys and I sat outside in the winter sunshine for lunch today. I made toasted hummus and cheese sandwiches with a side of plain, homemade yogurt. Benjamin fed most of his to the dogs while Lifa told me about his day at school. Halfway through his sandwich, Lifa stoped and said, “Wait. What did you make this with?” “Just hummus and cheese. Then I popped it in the toaster.”

I watched awe, wonder, and then indignation take over. “How come I can spend AN HOUR making myself a fancy lunch and it doesn’t even taste HALF this good? You can just put the most simple things in and make it taste better than my fancy food!”

“Lifa... it’s the love. Don’t forget that every time I make something for you, I make it with love. My love is very, very fancy.”

“Oh that must be it. I just listen to music when I make lunch.”

Today is the perfect day for dishing out some simple, fancy love!

This photo has nothing to do with toasted sandwiches. I took it yesterday in the car when Benjamin just wanted to ride around holding Lifa’s hand, and I just think it’s adorable.
