"I see you, Kacy."
I had a GREAT birthday yesterday! Thank you for all the messages and kindness! I woke up to my handsome husband asking me how it feels to be 28. (I turned 36, so that was the perfect question.) And the day only went up from there!
I convinced Chris not to wake Lifa up at 5am to give me my gifts, so when Lifa finally got up at 7, he jumped into action. Benjamin and I were sent to the nursery to wait while the big boys scurried. They set up a gorgeous bouquet flowers, a big box of Honest Chocolate bonbons, a very sweet card, a bath bomb from Lifa, and a new work station set up from my most favorite man.
Later that morning when we went on our “date walk”, Benjamin chattered with the birds, and Chris told me why he chose that gift for me. “I see you, Kacy. I see how you carry your computer all around the house and work wherever you are in whatever moment you have. At the table, on the nursery floor, at the kitchen counter, wherever you have a moment. And you’re making so many videos for Help Club now. I wanted to show you I see you, and I value what you are doing. It matters, and you matter. So I wanted to make it easier for you to do what you do.” Swooooon.
Chris gave me a computer stand to elevate my laptop so I could work while standing next to a high chair or sitting on a playroom floor. He also picked out a BEAUTIFUL computer case and a wireless phone charger that doubles as a stand for video recording. HE’S A GENIUS at giving gifts I never knew I needed and then all of a sudden don’t know how to live without.
I floated through the rest of that day with a heart full of joy. Friends delivered gifts. The boys and I met up with friends at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, and we had a super fun Thai takeout dinner. I finished the evening sitting on the floor by the fire while I prepared for this evening’s Help Club meeting with my laptop on its new stand and two bonbons in my belly. Glorious.
Chris always stresses about what to get my for my birthday or how to celebrate. He doesn’t even know how good he is at it. The gifts are GREAT but are auxiliary to the meaning behind them: “I see you, Kacy. I see what you’re doing, and it matters.”
We all need to hear that. We all need to be seen. In the midst of our hustle, struggles, strains. In the late nights and early mornings. Whenever we don’t think we’re quite cutting it.
It doesn’t have to be your birthday, and it may not come with a pink, floral computer case. (It’s so beautiful.) BUT there is a God who loves you. He sees you, and He is so pleased with you. The hard work... the faithfulness, perseverance, and the things you do that no one sees... He sees you, and you matter. And He is thrilled to give you gifts you do not even know you need.
