🙌 It's the Friday Call to Worship! 🙌
On Sunday at church, my husband delivered a powerful message about a "midnight moment". He told the story from Acts 16 of Paul and Silas on a long and seemingly unfruitful missionary journey. Not only did it seem there wasn't much to show for their labors, but they faced grave injustices, were beaten with rods and shacked into intentionally agonizing positions in the inner cells of a Roman prison.
But...
"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone's chains came loose." Acts 16:26-26
All of us have walked long, hard roads with little to show for it. We have been treated unjustly and experienced things we didn't deserve. We've been beaten down and immobilized in agony. It's part of life, and it will happen again.
Have you ever tried singing while you're still shackled? While you can't move? While it still hurts?
Some of the injustices and hard roads my family members and I have faced have tarnished my heart. There have been dark nights where singing was the furthest thing from my mind. Those quiet dark nights never made me more free. Sunday's message inspired me to just sing. Life may not change, but my heart is guaranteed to.
Jesus is the light of the world, and dark can't stay dark around Him. If you're in the middle of a dark night, sing the name of Jesus and let His light break through into Your heart. Let freedom reign as you sing from your shackles. His name is Jesus! Listen to "I Belong to Jesus" by Bethel Music and The McClures.
