🙌 It's the Friday Call to Worship! 🙌
Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..."
I've always thought about renewing my mind as an illusive thing, mastered only by people who write books about it.
I've always wanted to renew my mind, but never realized I already do every day. We all do. Whatever we agree with, good or bad, takes root in our mind and starts shaping our beliefs. Most often, I renew my mind passively by making a conclusion about myself based on an experience or emotion. I build a foundation of beliefs based on history or messages I've internalized from others. For me, it's been message like, "I have to do.... to be good enough." "I'm not worth... because...." "I'm not good at...."
In Genesis 3, God spoke to His beloved children from their hiding places when shame entered their minds and identities for the first time. He asked,"Who told you that you were naked?" (Genesis 3:11) Then He immediately addressed the serpent, cursing the liar and the lies. Next, He covered and tended His kids.
There will always be a liar. There will always be a voice, a feeling or even an experience outside of God's love that seeks to instill shame, fear, insecurity, anxiety, loneliness, bitterness or guilt in you. This week's call to worship is to catch every feeling and thought at the door of your mind and ask, "Who told you that?" If it's a message from the liar, curse him and send him slithering on his way. Jesus already covered You and made all those lies forever untrue on the cross.
Your Father says You are worth dying for. You are pure, spotless, dearly loved and completely worthy in His eyes. There is nothing you can do - not a single thing- to fall away from His grace and relentless love for you. Let's start renewing our minds with God's truth about us and become transformed into who we were created to be.
