πIt's the Friday Call to Worship!π
I abandoned breakfast table manners completely this week. My five-year old son is struggling to sit still. Every meal is a brutally painful process. So, instead of continually starting our morning with frustration and fighting, I have reformatted breakfast. I turn on worship music, put his breakfast at the kitchen counter, and he dance-eats while I pack lunchboxes. It has changed our morning story this week.
I have found myself singing one of the kids' worship songs on repeat, even when there are no kids in sight. Listener Kids transformed the old, powerful hymn, "I've Got a River of Life" into a quirky, upbeat tune. The music sounds like a video game and compels you to move. There are only 65 words worth of lyrics, but they have gripped me at spirit level. They tell of the most remarkable, restorative truth.
"I've got a river of life flowing out of me; It makes the lame to walk and the blind to see. It opens prison doors, sets the captives free. I've got a river of life flowing out of me. Spring up o well, within my soul! Spring up o well, and make me whole! Spring up o well, and give to me that life abundantly."
Honestly, it's as simple as that. Jesus said, "Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'" (John 7:38)
Turn on a children's song this week, and let Jesus' Truth bebop over your soul, child of God. The healing hopefulness woven into these lyrics might just make you dance like a child again. You were created to live whole and abundantly in a time such as this.
