πŸ™ŒIt's the Friday Call to Worship!πŸ™Œ

David is crowned king of all Israel in 2 Samuel 5, 22 long years after he was annointed future king. He ascended to the highest heights as a giant slaying, princess-marrying hero, and scraped rock bottom as a hated refugee, clipping a king's coat in a cave while he relived himself. (πŸ’© happens in the Bible too! See 1 Samuel 24.)

A familiar enemy mobilized to capture David when he became king. David asked the Lord if he should fight the Philistines. The Lord said yes, and, afterward, David exclaimed, "The Lord did it! He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!" (Read 2 Samuel 5:17-20.)

The enemies returned. "And again David asked the Lord what to do..." This time, the Lord gave His beloved a new strategy. "Do not attack them straight on... Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplar trees. When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the poplar trees, be on the alert! That will be the signal that the Lord is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army." (2 Samuel 5:23-24)

There is something wonderful about the King James Version translation of this account. It says, "in when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself."

Bestir thyself. Could there be any better battle plan? Any better life plan? Seek the Lord. Listen for Him. When you hear Him, bestir yourself, and go to battle.

The Lord moves ahead of you. There is an army of angels, armed and ready. Your name, your story, your character is accounted for in the story of the glory of the Lord. David's story is not a fairy tale or fit only for a king.

Call yourself to worship, beloved. Bestir yourself. Listen. Go to battle, for the Lord Your God goes before You and has prepare the troops above you.
