The Day We Became Hikers

Something changes the moment you take that first deep breath of mountain air. It’s Creator-air. It fills your lungs with the good stuff and somehow makes any other “bad stuff” dissolve for a while.

Something in Benjamin changes too, when he’s out in undistracting, adventuring, open space. He was proud to be the “leader of the hike” today, swinging a tiny stick around wildly and saying, “I’ll do anything to protect my family.” He dreamt of even bigger adventures as we plodded along, rehearsing heroics and trying bravery on for size. For a moment in time, nothing was bigger than dreams and the dirt we walked on. It was BEAUTIFUL.
