Lifa's First Blog! The Expert on Dads Finally Speaks - Father's Day Edition
Here it is, world. The Internet’s first up close and personal interview with Lifa.
I thought his would be the most qualified voice in the Ladd Family to celebrate Father’s Day, so I (Mom) interviewed Lifa on all the ins and outs regarding dads and why they are important.
“Hey Lifa, why do you think dads are important?”
(No hesitation): “Dads are important because they protect the family and help with things that moms can’t do. You need dads to play with and so you can learn stuff. They can teach their kids how to be a good dad when they grow up. And help the moms.”
“What would you say our dad is extra-good at, you know, like his Dad powers?”
“Oh, he’s really good at building fires. He’s good at making Khaya fires. Are they going to know that’s our dog? He’s also good at helping with building stuff and teaching us how to ride things, like bikes.”
“All of those are very true. Such good answers. Can you think of anything else?”
“Encouraging us, running, being a dad, building confidence, cooking really big meals - like crispy rice and eggs, onions for Mom [caramelized], steak, and making smoothies. He’s good at planning camping supplies and teaching people about God. Oh, and also stuff like taking pictures, fixing stuffs, loving others, answering questions in detail, and taking care of mom and our house. He’s good at choosing good music and thinking of good ideas.”
“What are some important things our dad has taught you?”
“To never give up. To try my best even when it seems super-hard. To be nice to people even if they’re not nice to me. To believe only the good things that people say about me. How to do chores like cleaning dog poop, sweeping, stacking firewood. How to make fires. How to be a good sport. To do everything to the best of my ability. To be a role model in everything I do. To be creative and use my brain (“Don’t starve in a grocery store, Lifa!”) He taught me funny dad jokes.”
“What kind of dad do you want to be when you grow up?”
“A loving, kind, gentle active dad. I want to be a dad that can teach my kids about God. I want to be good at building stuff, riding bikes and playing rugby with my kids. I want to be strong."
“How do you want your kids' friends to describe you when they talk about you as a dad?”
"He has a super-cool car and he’s super-nice. And he’s really organized.”
“What are you going to teach your kids about God?”
“That He’s the only one God, that He died on the cross for us, and He can do amazing miracles. He can help us when we need help.”
“Oh man, Lifa. This is so good. Do you have any final message you would like the Internet to know for Father’s Day… since you ARE kind of the expert on having a dad?”
(nods head knowingly…)
“Well, I guess they should know that a father protects his family. All you need to know if you want to be a good dad is to interact with your kids, support your family, and never give up, and make God part of your marriage.”
And there you have it, folks. The expert has spoken. I would venture to say that building fires for your dog is optional, but ours do really likes fires. I’m just the interviewer anyway.
We are celebrating our extra special dad today in the Ladd house. He chose to be a father and leads us to be an extraordinary miracle family. His selfless love teaches us more about God the Father’s love every single day.
Thank you, my love, for choosing us and being the earthly father in Lifa’s story that makes him an expert on having a dad. <---------------->
