π The Friday Call to Worship! π
This week in Cape Town, Table Mountain, two historical memorials, an established university, homes and hopes literally went up in flames.A flame started by human hands ignited a force that ravaged God's handiwork.
Isn't it astounding how one quick action, word, or small decision can rewrite a city's landscape and many people's stories?
As I write this call to worship, with smoke still lingering in the air, I find myself in an extraordinarily uncomfortable position. I'm waiting on other people to make decisions that will impact my life's landscape and the way I tell my story.
I don't know if the people I'm waiting on will haphazardly lift a match to my prayers. I do know that their hands, and whatever they choose to do with them, are not the hands that hold me.
Our hands were made to participate with our Makers' - to shape stories, fill landscapes, hold hope, and share burdens. But it's not what's in your hands or others' that define you. It's the unchanging love of Jesus that informs who you are. Hands that were nailed to a cross have already rewritten your story.
If there are things in your hands that are not yours to carry, let go of them. If you hold flaming arrows, douse them. If there are hopes, dreams, fears and questions, bring them to the One whose hands shaped yours. If you are impacted by othersβ, turn your mind back to your Maker.
Today, your call to worship is to use your hands for what they were made for. Listen to "Raise a Hallelujah" by Bethel Music and lift your hands in the air. Disregard the day's decisions, what your hands have to do or what othersβ have done. For just a few minutes, use your hands for what they were made for.
