🙌 It's the Friday Call to Worship! 🙌
God dreamt every facet of you before He formed you (Jer 1:5). You and I are created in the image of God, to hope for things still unseen. Dreaming is innate to our design.
I know this intimately. Still, I wonder if I dreamt the wrong dreams or was completely off track when the good things I pray for don't come to pass. Do I risk dreaming again? Do I keep hoping?
I'm not the only one. Author, CS Lewis, stepped away from faith completely for a season of his life. But, just as God orchestrates the sun, moon and perfectly positioned axis of the earth to sustain us, He composed a symphony of events to bring Lewis back to Him.
CS Lewis went on to write this profound quote in "The Weight of Glory":
"It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."
My children melt when they can't keep their broken toys, not understanding I'm making space for something better. How often do I do the same?
Paul says, "When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned like a child... Now we see things imperfectly... but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely." (1 Cor 13:11-12)
My mud pie dreams and the broken toys I cling to are nothing compared to being known completely by God. Today's call to worship is to turn your affection to the One whom you will know completely one day, but has known you completely since the moment He dreamt of you.
