🙌 It's the Friday Call to Worship! 🙌
This week, my youngest children danced and played in our back garden. They were lovingly tucked into their safe, warm beds every night while I kept careful watch over them with baby monitors. Meanwhile, a few kilometers away, our city was in utter disarray.
A violent, week-long taxi strike in Cape Town kept hundreds of thousands of teachers and learners away from school and employees away from work. Kids just like mine lost parents as the strike became murderous. There were countless injuries, vehicles set aflame and stoned, and unfathomable chaos unleashed. Businesses closed their doors, store shelves went empty, and the impoverished lost access to food. In one week. While my kids stripped off their clothes and jumped into a bucket of water in the back garden.
The juxtaposition is jarring. What was our Almighty God thinking while my 4-year old whizzed down a slide, and, just down the road, an 11-year old was hit by a whizzing bullet?
Remember the kids song, "Jesus loves the little children... all the children of the world... "? That same Jesus is not just gentle Jesus with a lamb in His lap like we see in the picture Bibles. He is also a roaring lion. He is a table-turning, earth-shaking, grave-clearing Savior of the world. And He will come back to make things right.
I could not leave my children to save the others this week. It was impossible for any of us to physically enter the barricaded battlefield. But, right here and now, we can engage in the warfare of worship. We can counteract the chaos around us with the roar of heaven. We can confront the alarming statistics with the immeasurable glory of God.
Crank up Brandon Lake's "Count Em", and let the attitude and reality of heaven boom. We are not observers of the world. We are shapers of it with the power of God within us. Let His Kingdom come.
