πIt's the Friday Call to Worship!π
Our autistic son is a noise-sensitive music lover. We gave him noice-canceling headphones and secondhand iPod shuffle. (We thought we were nailing it as parents.) Newsflash: Giving an mp3 player to a 4-year old who's never touched a device is a TERRIBLE idea. Too many options! He can't read! Thankfully, our Heavenly Father is a much better gift giver. He releases blessings as we can hold them.
In Exodus, God spoke to His children - freshly-freed slaves en route to the Promised Land. "I will... drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land." - Ex 23:28-30
God could have used the same holy hand that opened the Red Sea like a curtain to wipe out Israel's enemies in one swoop. But His children still had ground to take in their own hearts, and they physically couldn't manage this amount of land yet.
God can make the blind see and the lame walk with a word. He can heal your ailment, broken heart, and relationships before your head hits the pillow tonight.
Yet, that same, capable God still might release His goodness "little by little", like the Scripture says. Our promised ground just might be gained one doctor appointment or counseling session at a time. It might come morning by morning with an open Bible, or hand in hand as we pray together regularly. Can we worship while we walk?
Let's take our eyes off the journey and set them on the Lord over it. Give us more of You, Jesus, little by little.
