πŸ™ŒIt's the Friday Call to Worship!πŸ™Œ

A couple of week ago, I had a sick child whose needs were extremely high from very early in the morning. My toddler decided to even out the score by staying awake all through the night so I could also spend time with him. I only remember a flurry of medicines, meals, and unread messages that week. I didn't have a quiet moment to read my Bible or sing a worship song. Though my stomach was sick from exhaustion and surviving on coffee and peanut butter crusts, I knew, deep down in my sleepy spirit, this was the only place God woud have me in that moment in time. I wasn't missing Him because I missed my quiet time.

Sometimes, we connect with Christ through quiet mornings in His Word, through a life-speaking community, or powerful moments of worship where we sing to the Lord about His goodness. Other times, however, worshiping God can be about doing the work. Paul says it best, "...in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship." (Romans 12:1)

Noah spent worshipful decades building a boat before the world had ever experienced a single rain drop. (Gen 5-6)

When the troops and animals of God's army were out of water and enemy armies were closing in, the prophet Elisha told the weakened soldiers, "This is what the LORD says: 'Dig ditch after ditch..." (2 Kings 3:16) And they did.

You can worship in that uncomfortable chair next to the hospital bed today. You can worship in the late nights when sleep won't come. You can worship while you take that long drive in obedience again, or when you make one more sacrifice for what God has asked of you.

Today's worship song isn't a slow, holy hymn to close your eyes and lift your hands to. It's a catchy, worship-while-you-work song. So turn it up, and worship-work today!
