πIt's the Friday Call to Worship!π
When my childhood home went up in flames, we spent our first "homeless" nights fed, clothed and sheltered by families from my church youth group...
When I said, "There's a boy who needs a mom in South Africa. He can't come here, so I'm moving there..." my American church said, "We'll help, and we'll come to you if you can't come to us."
When I lived amongst some of the most vulnerable people in the world and asked God how to help, He placed me in the local church. I didn't need the same language or heritage to serve, worship, throw giant birthday parties, or teach there.
We spent this week with a couple from the American church that imprinted vision in my husband's spirit before I ever met him. We prayed together on Table Mountain, where God first spoke about building His Church here in Cape Town. They brought superhero costumes for our kids, cheered for our high school rugby team, and quite literally brought the Light of the World to the ends of the earth.
Every turning point of my life brings me right back to the power of the Church. The capital C, "gates of Hades will not prevail" Church. (Matthew 16:18) It's not that the local church always gets it right or is without sin. It's definitely not that. But the promised, Kingdom-come design of the Church is what we were made for. It's a meeting point of heaven and earth, a gathering place, a healing space and a launching pad.
No matter what today has for us, let's REJOICE in what's coming. Let's BE what's coming.
"...all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him..." (Hebrews 12:27, 28)
