Rainbow Hunting

I have to buy Benjamin a new pair of pants today because ALL of his pants are wet and muddy. Good news! The Cape Town drought is OVER! Just a little over a year ago, we were all showering in buckets and recycling water too many times just so the city would not run completely dry. Now I CANNOT keep my child dry! We’ve been cold and wet for days, and we are celebrating! Benjamin is especially celebrating.

We do not have a tumble dryer, so we have a HUGE basket of wet, muddy clothes waiting for a sunny day to wash and hang them on the line. Parts of my want to complain and my fingers and toes are crying to be warm, BUT it’s raining, it’s pouring, and God is blessing the land.

Yesterday, Chris went on a run and ended up swim-running through knee-deep water when a torrential downpour came during the ONE hour that he decided to run. Somehow, that crazy man came home with a smile on his face and water dripping off his mustache!

It’s winter here and our house (like most) has no insulation or proper sealing so it’s colder inside than out. - we are so cold. We have no clean laundry. Benjamin is absolutely stir-crazy and making us all crazy. But Lifa is still hunting rainbows. Almost every day you can hear him say, “This is perfect rainbow weather!”

When we see those rainbows, everything else stops. We are consumed with awe, wonder and the magic of the colors strewn across the sky. I wonder if that’s why God sent a rainbow to Noah. When his world was very literally washed away, when nothing would be the same ever again, God took one deep breath and gave the ones he loved a glimpse of His majesty. Somehow, even when the weather is still bad, a little bit of wonder goes a long way. That’s why I’m excited to be doing this 15x15 worship challenge. (Worshiping God for 15 minutes a day for 15 days in a row.) It’s like finding a rainbow every single day. I love starting my day with wonder and awe - it makes everything else glimmer during the downpours!
