πIt's the Friday Call to Worship!π
Moses was born into a death sentence. Through extraordinary circumstances, he was adopted into the same royal family that tried to kill him. Years later, that miracle baby became a murder and refugee. He fled from his identity. He was not a Hebrew slave nor deliverer. He was not Egyptian royalty. He became a foreign shepherd that didn't even have his own sheep. Still, God Almighty entrusted this miraculous, messy, murderous man of the fields to fulfill a 400 year prophecy.
I would imagine the background music reaching its crescendo when the Deliver shows up and says, "Let's go!" But life had knocked Moses one too many times. Even in the presence of God Himself, Moses didn't believe he had the legs to stand on. "What if they won't believe me or listen to me? What if they say, 'The LORD never appeared to you'?" (Ex 4:1) (I can't blame him. Sometimes I ask MYSELF, "What if the Lord never appeared to you?")
Moses tried to convince God he didn't have the reputation or credentials.
"Then the LORD asked him, 'What is that in your hand?' 'A shepherd's staff,' Moses replied. (Ex 4:2) God didn't talk about Moses' behavior or background. He turned attention to the refugee shepherd staff that He would use for extraordinary deliverance miracles.
What would happen if we trusted that God could use the very ordinary things in our hands, despite the messy ways they might have gotten there? Your purpose isn't found in your past. Your purpose is today.
Your purpose every single day is to love God and be loved by Him. Ordinary things become extraordinary the presence of the King of Kings. This is your moment to give God what's in your hand and trust His love.
