Benjamin's Best Monday
School has closed down again! The world calls is a global pandemic. Benjamin calls it his best life.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has closed all South African schools for the next four weeks with the exception of Grade 12 students taking only one week off and grade 7’s taking only two weeks off. That means we get our Lifa home with us for another two week holiday.
In all seriousness, we are praying fervently for our nation. South Africa’s COVID-19 stats are amongst the highest in the world, and our numbers are skyrocketing daily. We have a very high rate of co-morbidities due to a large AIDS and TB positive population. There are also thousands of highly populated settlements with people living in very close quarters, and sanitary hygiene is almost impossible to practice without running water. The death tolls are climbing too fast, and there just aren’t enough hospital beds or resources. Our president made a difficult and wise decision, and we are taking it seriously and exercising great caution. That’s what the grown-up world is thinking about.
The adolescent brain in this house is already missing friends, wondering if he has enough money saved to buy a computer mouse to play Minecraft, and is dreading the pace I make him walk when we “Mom-walk”.
But Benjamin... ohhhh Benjamin is the one winning here. His all-time favorite guy is home with him, right where he belongs. He doesn’t have words yet, but Benjamin has two primary emotions and two primary modes of communication.
Happy: open-mouth kiss. Only open-mouthed. Your mouth must be inside his mouth, or you must not love him.
Unhappy: incessant, skull-grinding whining.
Today we will pray for our nation and bask in this delicious brotherhood we prayed over for so long. Happy Monday everyone!
